Meet Our Team

Jos Raats

PhD – CEO and founder
Jos established AbSano B.V. in 2018 as a spin-off company of ModiQuest B.V. that has been focusing on the development of novel therapeutics for diseases since 2004. He has been CEO of the ModiQuest group since 2004. Since 1994 he has worked in the recombinant antibody, and citrullination field studying citrullinated autoantigens, ACPA antibodies, protein citrullination, and antibodies against various other targets. He is co-inventor of the highly sensitive, gold standard, an early diagnostic test for RA (anti-CCP test). He is co-inventor of the tACPA antibodies. He has managed numerous antibody lead generation programs within the sister ModiQuest Research B.V. He has been involved in scientific research for more than 25 years, with over 50 publications from work at the University of Nijmegen, the Wellcome/CRC Institute in Cambridge (UK), at the University of Minnesota, in Minneapolis (USA), and ModiQuest and its daughter companies AbSano B.V., Citryll B.V., TACPA B.V.

Sabine Cuijpers

PhD – Senior scientist
Sabine moved from the beautiful Brabant to the lifely city of Leiden to study Biomedical Sciences at the Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC). After exploring science during internships at the department of Human Genetics (LUMC) and the Laboratory of Molecular Biology (MRC, Cambridge, UK), she decided to continue her academic career. At the LUMC, she obtained her PhD with the department of Molecular Cell Biology (currently Cell and Chemical Biology). She joined AbSano from the start, being involved in every step along the way. Together with the CEO Jos Raats, Sabine is responsible for AbSano’s scientific programs as well as regulatory affairs.

Simone Wouters

PhD – Scientist
Simone studied BioMedical Engineering at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). Her master thesis, in the Protein Engineering group, focussed on the development of light-switchable proteins. During her study she also enrolled in The Netherlands Research School of Chemical Biology (NRSCB) and she performed an internship at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München in the photopharmacology research group. After obtaining her degree in 2016, she started a PhD project in the Protein Engineering group at the TU/e within the Research Center for Functional Molecular Systems (FMS). She worked on the development of generic methods to functionalize antibodies or control antibody activity. In 2020, she obtained her PhD degree and started working at AbSano.

Wendy Jansen Holleboom

MSc – Researcher
Wendy graduated from the Wageningen University & Research, where she studied molecular nutrition and toxicology, a specialization from the master Nutrition and Health. Wageningen is also the city where she lives at the moment. During her MSc thesis in Nutrition, Metabolism, and Genomics, she performed research about the metabolic and functional effects of inhibiting glycolysis in murine bone marrow derived macrophages. Her internship at RIKILT provided her insights in the field of toxicology. She studied the genotoxicity of pyrrolizidine alkaloids by performing the yH2AX assay, an In-Cell Western immunosorbent assay. Since the startup of AbSano, Wendy is actively involved in each of AbSano’s scientific programs and is responsible for supplier contacts.

Annemarie Hummel

MSc – Researcher
Annemarie started studying Biomedical Laboratory Research at the Hanze University of Applied Sciences in Groningen. After internships in the Mucosal Immunology group at the Malawi-Liverpool Wellcome Trust Research Programme (MLW, Malawi) and the Haematology Laboratory at the University Medical Centre Groningen, she decided to continue her studies in the master Biology of Health & Disease at the Wageningen University & Research. During her MSc thesis, she focused on the effects of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) on the human immune response and trained immunity. Annemarie joined AbSano for her last internship to work on the Plexin D1 program. After her graduation, she was happy to start working at AbSano as a technician.

Jeroen Vermeer

BSc – Technician
Jeroen, who lives in Tilburg, joined the AbSano team during the final internship of his studies Biology and Medical Laboratory Research. After his graduation from Avans Hogeschool in Breda, he started at AbSano as a technician. Jeroen has experience with phage display and is involved in AbSano’s lead program on GPCRs. Furthermore, he is responsible for various tasks in the laboratory.
